It offers good comfort for long shifts because it lets heat and moisture escape. For general patient care, food handling and light clinical work, SMS is the cost-effective choice.

PP+PE laminated: a fluid-proof film barrier

PP+PE laminated adds a polyethylene film layer that makes the gown fluid-proof. It is the common choice for surgical and high-fluid procedures where a strong liquid barrier is required. The film trades some breathability for protection, so it is less comfortable for long shifts in warm environments. For surgery, chemo and high-fluid work, PP+PE is the standard.

CPE/PE film: maximum impermeability at the lowest cost

CPE (chlorinated polyethylene) and PE film gowns offer maximum impermeability at the lowest cost, making them ideal for high-turnover splash tasks where the gown is worn briefly and discarded. They are less breathable and less comfortable for long shifts, so they suit short-duration tasks more than extended wear. For cleaning, food processing and high-turnover splash work, CPE/PE is the economical choice.

Match the material to the task, not the lowest price

List the fluids, the pressure and the duration of exposure before you specify. An over-specified gown adds cost and heat stress, while an under-specified gown creates a real protection gap. For routine isolation, SMS is sufficient. For surgery and high-fluid work, choose PP+PE. For high-turnover splash tasks, CPE/PE is economical.
