Understand the three-ply construction
A standard surgical mask is built from three layers: a fluid-resistant spunbond outer layer, a melt-blown middle filtration layer, and a soft inner layer that sits against the skin. The melt-blown layer is what actually filters bacteria and particles, so its quality and basis weight drive the mask's protection level.
- Outer spunbond layer resists fluid splash
- Melt-blown middle layer filters bacteria and particles
- Soft inner layer for comfort against the skin
